Healthy Savannah is a recipient of the CDC Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health Grant (REACH), which focuses on nutrition, physical activity, breastfeeding, and adult immunizations in low wealth communities of color. The interns would have the opportunity to engage with these four aspects of Healthy Savannah’s work, but would work most closely with the Savannah Chatham Food Policy Council (SCFPC). Healthy Savannah is a public/private partnership of more than 200 business, nonprofits, faith-and community-based organizations, schools, and healthcare and government agencies. Healthy Savannah’s work and membership reach deeply into the community with strong representation from residents. Healthy Savannah has over 17 years experience with policy, systems, and environmental changes and is a two-time recipient of the CDC’s Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health grant 2018-2023 & 2023-2028. The 2023-2028 REACH grant will bring over $5 million to communities in Savannah and Chatham County to address health disparities and improve health equity in the County.

The SCFPC works to address the top food system priorities of Chatham County residents. The SCFPC will be a vector for addressing nutrition security, health equity, and food systems related issues in the community. The council will take decisive steps to move the needle on health equity and food access in Chatham County through policy, systems, and environmental changes. Policies provide a long-term and sustainable change for the community.
