The Smart Community Corps (SCC) is the first statewide program of its kind for civic-minded students to gain hands on smart city experience. Generously funded by Microsoft, the SCC is a joint collaboration with the Georgia Tech Career Center, Serve-Learn-Sustain, and Student Government Association. Through this partnership, interns participate in weekly programming and education seminars that introduce students to theories of grassroots sustainability/innovation, as well as career development, writing, and mentorship. This year, using a “pair mode,” Georgia Tech students are collaborating with students from other Georgia colleges and universities. The 2021 cohort of interns is comprised of students form Georgia Tech, Morehouse College, SCAD, and Valdosta State University. The interns are working on projects from the Georgia Smart Communities Challenge, an award-winning program that encourages local communities across the state to develop, test, and implement new practices that contribute to a smarter and more sustainable future.
