Data Maturity

The Data Maturity Assessment for Georgia’s Governmental Agencies project aims to equip local governments with tools to improve their data collection as part of the Smart Community Corps Intern Program for Summer 2022!

Local governments are responsible for maintaining their own data programs that can be used by them and citizens. However, for governments to have a robust, high-quality data collection, they must continually collect, process, and share data, which can be difficult for governments that lack data-related skills, experience, and personnel. Recent examples have shown how data allows government agencies’ services to better reach their communities.

Nikolai Elneser and Tommy Pearce of Neighborhood Nexus—a collaborative partnership of the Atlanta Regional Commission, Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way of Greater Atlanta—are leading this project that will develop a Data Maturity Assessment model for local governments to use. Local governments will be able to use this tool to measure the quality of their databases against their own benchmarks from which they can grow. Through sharing data and information with independent organizations, Elneser and Pearce believe the collective impact of Neighborhood Nexus and its partners will be strengthened.
